Furniture

Wednesday, 26 March 2008 11:31 by Wife

Bryan and I finally chose out our bedroom furniture, complete with a king bed!  :)  We can't wait.  It will take about four weeks for delivery, but it will be so nice once it arrives.  The set will include a king bed, two matching nightstands, a tall dresser, and a long dresser with a matching mirror.  We'll each have our own dresser, which will be SO nice!  Bryan has alot of clothes.

Sickness

Wednesday, 26 March 2008 11:25 by Wife

I hate being sick.  Unfortunately since switching jobs back in November I have been sick nearly once a month!  It's crazy.  Someone around me is always sick, and then the disease just gets passed along.  In late November/early December I had a bad cold, I was sick with the flu on New Year's Eve (that was from Todd though), at the end of January I had the flu with a high fever, and now I have some sort of cold or sinus infection that keeps getting worse.

I thought I was congested yesterday, but that was nothing to how I feel today.  Bryan and I had dinner with Jamie and Ryan last night, and Ryan said we was getting a little sick.  I hope he doesn't get this on his vacation because laying in the sun doesn't sound super appealing right now..

I made a doctor's appointment for this afternoon and I am undecided on whether or not I will keep it. Hmm.

Unfortunately I am at work and am unable to just go to sleep at my desk.  It's a real shocker, I know.

Exercise room..

Tuesday, 25 March 2008 10:25 by Wife

So Bryan and I now have a treadmill and a recument bike! :)  I am quite excited.  We purchased them off of Craigslist.  Currently they are residing in our dining room.  The treadmill is really heavy.  Bryan and I could barely carry it in from the garage, much less down the basement stairs, so for now we have a little work-out area set up in dining room, facing the living room TV.  I walked for about 25-30 minutes last night, and Bryan got up this morning and worked out on his bike.  So far, so good!  It definitely beats having to go to the gym.

Now I just need to get a few free weights..

Easter/Weekend Recap

Monday, 24 March 2008 14:47 by Wife

Bryan and I had a nice weekend.

Friday night we rented "Dan in Real Life."   It was alright.

Saturday was our six month wedding anniversary!! :)  That is pretty exciting.  We planned on getting dressed up and going to a nice restaurant but we got busy and didn't do that... I ran errands Saturday morning, cleaned the house up a bit, and met my mom, Becky, Rene, Sharon and Laura at Deer Lake for Laura's birthday lunch.  That was fun.  Sharon came over to our house and afterwards and with her help we now have all of our paint colors chosen out! :)  We are so happy about that, and were having a tough time putting all the colors together, etc.  So now I think our house will blend very nicely from room to room.  After choosing the colors our we went over to Sherwin-Williams to pick up samples of the colors we chose, just to double-check with lighting, etc.  We will paint the sample colors up one night this week.

After Sherwin-Williams we went over to Art Van where we finally chose out our end tables and entertainment unit for the family room, as well as our king-size mattress.  We can't wait for the nice mattress... :)  Then we met Katie at Twelve Oaks where she got a pair of pants from Express and Bryan looked at some shoes at Macy's.

By that time it was almost 9:00 and both Bryan and I were pretty tired, so we just went to Carrabba's for dinner.  It was good! :)

Sunday was Easter, and that morning I was a baking fiend!  I made homemade gingerbread men, stars, hearts, and eggs.  I also made homemade carrot cupcakes with buttercream frosting.  Both turned out really well! Bryan helped decorate the gingerbread cookies and we had fun doing so.  I put little carrots on each cupcake and they turned out really cute.  We also baked some sweet potatoes, lightly basted in olive oil with a little brown sugar on the skin.

At 2:00 we went over to Laura's for Easter dinner with my mom's side.  There was lots and lots of food!  Turkey, ham, three different kinds of potatoes, a salad, green bean casserole, stuffing, desserts, etc.  Everyone loved the cookies and cupcakes. :)  It was a nice first Easter as a married couple.

And that's it.  It was a busy weekend.  I hate starting the work week tired, but what can you do..

Furniture!!

Wednesday, 19 March 2008 14:39 by Wife

Bryan and I took the plunge and made a decision last night! :)  We purchased some family room furniture, and I couldn't be more excited.  We now have a new sofa, two new chairs, and two new ottomans.  They're nice and simple, and I really like the design.

Really, though, it's just nice that we finally made up our minds.  And we got a pretty good deal, and I like good deals..  But more importantly, we now can choose paint colors and everything.  We're going to start doing that tonight so that we can have our house painted the first week of April.  :)

Now that we've taken the first plunge I am more than ready to choose out our bedroom furniture, mattress, etc.  I am also incredibly excited and anxious to do so!!

So yes, our house is finally starting to come together.

Sweet potatoes vs. Yams

Tuesday, 18 March 2008 13:44 by Wife

So for Easter dinner on Sunday I am bringing a dessert (cupcakes or gingerbread bunnies, maybe both) and sweet potatoes.  This will be my first time to buy and prepare sweet potatoes.  I realize the preparation isn't very difficult.

What I did not understand, exactly, was the difference between the sweet potato and the yam.  I am going to the store tonight so I wanted to make sure that I purchased the correct variety.  I thought that perhaps they were one in the same, although I also doubted that to be the truth.  It turns out they're quite different yet many people refer to them interchangeably.  They also are both orange on the inside.  And here's probably why people get them so confused: Most stores and even canned yam retailers label sweet potatoes as "Yams" when really they just a version of the sweet potato.  So you may think that you're getting canned yams when really you're getting canned sweet potatoes.  Same goes for bulk produce...

So interesting.  Even if I had accidentally purchased yams tonight I probably would have ended up with sweet potatoes.

Noodles and Company

Monday, 17 March 2008 14:04 by Wife

Bryan and I met for lunch today at the Noodles and Company in Troy, MI.  It was very good! :)  I ordered the mac n' cheese and Bryan went with the marinara pasta with a parmesan chicken breast.  Both meals were pretty tasty.  We split a delicious chocolate chip cookie for dessert.  I really enjoyed meeting Bryan for lunch.  It was a very nice break from the usual workday.

I think we're both looking forward to going to Noodles and Company again - maybe for another lunch date!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Monday, 17 March 2008 11:01 by Wife

I hope everyone is wearing some green...  There are several people here at work not sporting any green and it's a little sad.

Bryan and I had a fun weekend in Grand Rapids.  Saturday night was a mini Kelloggsville High School reunion.  Bryan was able to catch up with a bunch of friends he hasn't seen in forever.  There was also lot and lots of beer..

Yesterday we had a pretty slow day.  We did not start heading back to Clarkston until 1:30 or 2 in the afternoon.  Normally we leave in the morning, so this was a nice change.  On the way home we stopped at Birch Run because Bryan needed to exchange a pair of pants.  He got a nice pair of khakis.  :)  Last night we just relaxed, took a walk, made some dinner, and hung out.  It was nice.

We were able to go on two walks yesterday - one at his parents' and one in our neighborhood.  I can't wait for Spring!!
