House preparations

Friday, 30 May 2008 10:48 by Wife

Our house party is TOMORROW and we're almost ready!  I can't believe how much we've accomplished in the past month.

Tonight we will prepare the spare room a bit and hang pictures.  After that all we have to do is the downstairs bath.  Unfortunately that's not going to happen before tomorrow.  Oh well, one thing out of hundreds is not bad.  The puppies slowed us down a bit - they're a lot of work!

On Sunday I will post before and after house pictures of everything we've done.  :)  Hopefully tonight I will be able to post a few puppy pictures.

Bryan and I will be doing lots of food preparation for our BBQ tomorrow, but it should all come together nicely.  We're pretty much exhausted right now and can't wait to relax and DO NOTHING to the house on Sunday.  And for most of the summer...

Here a brief list of what we've done:

-Hang pictures on the walls (will be done tonight)

-Hang window treatments

-Power wash and seal the deck - WAY too much work and won't happen again for a while.  I have had enough deck stain - the process is very time consuming.

-Weed/landscape/plant flowers

-Get a lawnmower and revive our grass

-Complete the spare bedroom (will be done tonight)

-Paint or wallpaper the downstairs bathroom - only thing left!

-Paint the upstairs bathroom

-Finish painting all of the doors

The start of summer..

Thursday, 29 May 2008 09:44 by Wife

Now that Memorial Day has come and passed, I feel that summer is finally here.  Although the official start isn't until my birthday on June 21 Memorial Day starts a season of barbeques, good weather, and fun times outside.  Best yet - it starts half day Fridays (every other) until the end of August!!  And because of the way my schedule has worked out, I do not have a full week of work until after the Fourth of July.  I am very happy about that!! :-D  It gives me more time to relax outside and have fun with our pups!  And travel!

Tomorrow, May 30 - New Horizons HTML 2 Training (out of the office)

Friday, June 6 - Half Day

Friday, June 13 - Half Day - Tentatively going up north to the In-Law's cottage

Friday, June 20 - Out of office in Chicago

Friday, June 27 - Half day

Friday, July 4 - Day off for the holiday - Up north to the In-Law's cottage

They are so cute!  Two boys - brothers - Thatcher and Graham (Cracker).  They are very playful and when they get tired they fall asleep in our arms! :)  ADORABLE!

Bad food, good game

Wednesday, 21 May 2008 14:17 by Wife

Last night after work a vendor took me and 11 other women I work with out to eat and to the Tigers game.  For dinner we went to Cheli's Chili.  I have been to the other two locations before, and from what I remember they were fine.  Not great, but not bad either.  This one was not the case.  Most of the group ordered burgers, a few ordered nachos, and a few ordered chili.  I ordered a turkey burger.  The food took a VERY long time, even though nothing was all that complicated.  When it finally came only half the table's food got there; the other half's took another 20 minutes.  When I cut into my burger it fell apart and all of the meat was pink.  It was so raw that it wasn't even held together at all.  I was pretty grossed out.  On top of that that, when the other half's food came 3-4 of their orders were incorrect, so they had to redo them all.  Cassandra was sitting next to me, and her turkey burger was pink as well, though not quite as bad as mine.  The service was just really poor at Cheli's and the kitchen couldn't get our orders right.  To make up for it they comped two of the burgers and took 50% off the rest of the bill, but even then I don't plan on going back there any time soon to eat.

The game was a lot of fun though!  The Tigers won 12-8.  They were up by much more before the ninth inning when they switched pitchers THREE times, but oh well, they still had a win! :)  I had fun hanging out with some of the girls I work with, too.  The only downside was that we did not get back to the office until 11:00 and from there I had to drive back to Clarkston...

So all in all it was a good, yet late, night.

house update...

Wednesday, 21 May 2008 14:17 by Wife

There is not really much to update.  Bryan and I were at his parent's cottage over the weekend for his grandpa's 86th birthday party so we did nothing on the house.  Then Bryan's been out of town for work since Monday morning, and I have been really busy after work, so we haven't done anything yet this week either.

After work tonight I am visiting Mam.  Hopefully Bryan won't get home too late and we'll be able to hang out together for the rest of the night.  Tomorrow night we can do more around the house, and I have a half day Friday and no work on Monday, so I am sure we'll accomplish everything on our list.

Bryan has only been gone two nights, but I still miss him!  I hate being in a big house all alone.  I am hoping that this will be the last of all the travelling for a while...

Summer Trips

Thursday, 15 May 2008 10:59 by Wife

I have planned a couple of mini-trips for the summer, in addition to visiting the in-laws' cottage.

June 20-22 (My Birthday Weekend!) - Chicago.  We're going to fly there and stay at Hotel Burnham.  It should be a fun trip!  I have a Circulation Management conference at the Chicago Hyatt Monday-Wednesday, so it should work out well.

July 18-22 - Mackinac Island for two nights and Traverse City for two nights.  I am excited for Traverse City.  My old boss had rewarded me with a gift certificate to the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa so we will be staying there.  I will also go to the spa, but I have not yet decided what services I will do... :)

I have half-days every other Friday in the summer, so I am excited for that!  And they're right around the corner, starting after Memorial Day!

Movie

Wednesday, 14 May 2008 09:45 by Wife

Katie and I saw Maid of Honor (with Patrick Dempsey) last night.  It was a bit of a let down.  The movie was not that great, and there really wasn't anything exciting in the plot and the characters did not develop at all.  It was like My Best Friend's Wedding but much worse and with a different ending.

I would definitely wait till Maid of Honor comes out on DVD to see it.
